Charitable Organization Accepting Unwanted Tech and IT Equipment

2 min read

According to The Press and Journal, a poverty charity is benefiting from unwanted digital and IT equipment.

Community Food Initiatives North East (CFINE) has partnered with XS Resources, a non-profit organization which resells and recycles unwanted IT equipment, to collect unwanted but useful IT items across Scotland. It’s important to note that all information and data on IT devices will be security wiped before being utilized, donated, or sold to another IT buyer.

According to the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, data centers are upgrading to new IT equipment at least once every three to five years. In the past, companies could succeed without the most innovative and updated forms of technology, but that’s certainly not the case anymore.

Large corporations, small businesses, and even individual freelancers rely so much on digital devices and IT equipment items. Unfortunately, it can be difficult for certain businesses and individuals to acquire quality tech items. Considering that over 50% of businesses have experienced IT downtime after a technological disaster, good equipment is paramount.

It can be tough to get rid of unwanted technology in most instances, as well, due to legalities behind throwing out tech devices and overall demand. But charitable organizations like CFINE are great for helping both raise money and allowing businesses and families to get rid of their old computers and tech devices that would otherwise just take up space.

Here are the various pieces of IT equipment that will be collected:

  • Desktop PCs
  • Laptops
  • Servers
  • Tablets
  • Flat screen monitors
  • Flat screen TVs
  • Smartphones

The IT equipment donation project began on November 30, and will continue with free donation pickups every Friday.

CFINE aims to improve health, well-being, and the environment through various support and services, including technical donations.
